Plate Tectonics

"Let's Get Shakin"

Science lesson plan for unit titled "Let's Get Shakin'." Interdisciplinary unit involving eighth grade science, social studies, and language arts. In science, social studies, and language arts, students use the Internet to research student eyewitness accounts of a recent earthquake, and then write a short story in the historical fiction genre.

All Cracked Up !

Plate Tectonics

Discover Volcano Locations

This hands-on, individual and group lesson/activity is designed for those students who have prior knowledge of the different layers of the earth. Students will discover that the locations of earthquakes and volcanoes allow scientists to determine where the faults on the earth's lithosphere are located. The plate tectonics theory will also be explored using this information.
Musical Plates
This project taps into some of the exciting new applications of the Internet in education by having students access real time earthquake data, interact with experts online, and
publish their own work to the project web site. Students will tap into these fantastic resources all in the context of an authentic real world problem which they will need to solve using science and mathematics.
