INTRODUCTION                                       RETURN TO TOP

Web Site

This web site is a work in progress. It began as an assignment for ECED 7430 at Valdosta State University.  The focus of the education course was the integration of math, science, and technology. The site and information continue to focus on these three areas of interest.  The site is geared to the sixth to eighth level student and teacher of this age group. I hope you enjoy the site and I seek your input and suggestions.  Please e-mail your comments to my school e-mail address above. Just click on the e-mail icon and my address will automatically load.

Susan Dollar Grubbs                           RETURN TO TOP

The beginning of last school year was the beginning for me at a new school.  Memories of the past and hopes of the future flood my mind when I enter the Hutto Middle School as a teacher. Thirty years ago I was one of the first white students to attend Hutto Junior High. Now I am a proud member of the staff of Hutto Middle School.  In a school that once bussed me to the Bainbridge High School to take algebra, I teach algebra, pre-algebra, and reading. My classroom is directly in front of the main office. The first book that I opened in my classroom was a book that I issued to a student three years earlier at the local high school. I feel that I have returned home to a caring family of educators and we plan to make a positive difference in the education of the students we serve. I love teaching and I love math. I teach because I care about the education of our youth and believe that only those who strive to be the best should teach. All others should seek a less important role in life. Perhaps a quote by a Lee Iacocca would better express my beliefs.

  In a completely rational society,
the best of us would aspire to be teachers
and the rest of us would have to settle for something less,
because passing civilization along from one generation to
the next ought to be the highest honor and
the highest responsibility anyone could have.

My Classroom                                                    RETURN TO TOP

Currently, I am the facilitator of learning to approximately 100 eighth grade students. I teach one class of reading to 23 students. We are using the SRA Comprehension C series in our classroom.  These students are average students, but poor readers. The series chosen helps to improve comprehension and hopefully lead the students to independent reading success.

The rest of my day is devoted to math. I teach Algebra I to 19 eighth grade gifted students during 4th period. We are on the same schedule of lessons as the high school. At the end of the year, students will take the new exit exam. Their achievement on this test and their progress in the course will determine if they will receive high school credit for their eighth grade Algebra I class.

The rest of my instructional day is devoted to pre-algebra. We are using the new Glencoe Mathematics - Applications and Connections Course 3 as a resource, but closely follow the Georgia QCC's for eighth grade as our curriculum.
