At Decatur County Schools, preparing students for graduation means preparing them for what comes after graduation.

Through the Bearcat +1 initiative, Bainbridge High School is helping students explore opportunities and make informed decisions about their futures. Bearcat +1 focuses on three pathways—Enrolled, Enlisted, or Employed—with the goal of ensuring every graduating Bearcat has a plan for their next step.

Recently, students had the opportunity to explore two of those pathways during a College and Military Fair at Bainbridge High School.Students explore college and military opportunities at Bainbridge High School’s College and Military Fair.

Representatives from colleges, universities, technical programs, and branches of the United States Armed Forces were on hand to speak directly with students about the opportunities available after high school. Students were able to ask questions, learn about admissions and career options, and begin making connections that can help turn their post-graduation goals into a plan.

For students considering higher education, the fair provided an opportunity to learn more about the Enrolled pathway, including two-year and four-year colleges and technical education programs. Students interested in serving their country were also able to explore the Enlisted pathway by speaking with military representatives about careers, training, education benefits, and service opportunities.

The third Bearcat +1 pathway, Employed, encourages students who plan to enter the workforce after graduation to pursue sustainable career opportunities and leave high school equipped with the skills and preparation needed to succeed.

Events like the College and Military Fair are an important part of making Bearcat +1 more than a goal. They give students opportunities to explore their options, have meaningful conversations, and begin identifying the pathway that is right for them.

Whether a Bearcat chooses to be Enrolled, Enlisted, or Employed, Decatur County Schools wants every student to cross the graduation stage knowing there is a next step waiting for them.

Because graduation isn't the finish line—it's the beginning of what comes next.

Bearcat +1: Every Graduate. A Plan. A Next Step.
