This year's Read Across America Week was filled with excitement, laughter, and a whole lot of reading! Our school kicked off the festivities with a special mystery challenge: five masked readers—Mrs. Temples, Coach Bearden, Mrs. Brock, Dr. Hampton, and Ms. Ezell—recorded themselves reading their favorite books while keeping their identities a secret. Each day, students became detective readers, trying to guess who was behind the mask. At the end of the week, Mrs. Lori Temples was crowned the mystery reader that stumped the most students, winning the challenge! Throughout the week, we also had special guest readers from our community, county office, school administration, ECE high school students, and our amazing 5th graders share their love of reading with younger students. We had 105 read alouds from people outside of the classroom just in the first week of March. Stay tuned for our total for the whole month of March!
To make the week even more magical, students participated in exciting dress-up days celebrating all things books and reading. Monday kicked off with a colorful Dr. Seuss day featuring silly hats and whimsical costumes. Tuesday was Dress to Impress where students showed off their best styles. Wednesday brought Book Character Day to life as students transformed into their favorite fictional friends. Thursday featured Figurative Language Day where students dressed to represent a simile, metaphor, or idiom they loved. Friday wrapped up the week with Twin Day where buddies dressed alike and celebrated their reading friendship. The hallways were bursting with imagination and joy!
Read Across America Week reminded us all why stories matter so much. When students see their teachers, coaches, administrators, and community members excited about reading, they learn that books are treasures worth exploring. Whether it was solving the mystery of the masked readers, dressing up as beloved characters, or listening to special guests share their favorite stories, this week was all about fostering a genuine love of reading. We hope every student left this week knowing that there's nothing quite like getting lost in a good book!
