Our 6th grade students investigated how heat transfers through conduction, convection, and radiation with hands‑on experiments — feeling temperature changes, observing warm air movement, and testing insulating materials. Science was engaging, interactive, and (yes!) s'mores were fun. Great curiosity, teamwork, and real‑world thinking on display! 🌡️🔬👏

Our 8th graders are turning up the volume this week as they dive deep into the physics of sound waves. From understanding why a siren changes pitch as it zooms by to visualizing how energy travels through different media, it’s been a day of "ear-opening" discoveries!

📌 Flu Season Health & Safety Reminder for Families
Flu season is upon us and here are a few reminders to help keep our schools healthy :

🦠 Wash hands often with soap and water
🦠 Cover coughs and sneezes
🦠 Keep students home if they have a fever or flu-like symptoms
🦠Students must be fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications before returning to school
🦠Consider talking with your child’s health care provider about the flu vaccination

🚨🤒When to keep your child home:
If your child has a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, severe cough, or feels unwell please keep them home and allow time to recover before returning to school.

💜 Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students, staff, and schools healthy throughout flu season.

We’re proud to share that the new Bainbridge Middle School and the Bainbridge High School Performing Arts Center earned First Place in the 2025 Build Georgia Awards! This prestigious honor recognizes projects that exemplify excellence in safety, innovation, project management, and client service.

This recognition is especially meaningful because it reflects the strength of the partnership between JCI, Decatur County Schools, our design team, and the many local subcontractors and craftsmen who brought these spaces to life. Successfully delivering two complex, high-impact projects—while keeping safety a top priority and our school community at the forefront—was truly a team effort.

We are incredibly proud of what these buildings represent for our students, educators, and the Bainbridge community. Thank you, JCI, for your partnership and for helping deliver facilities that will serve generations to come.

Our 8th grade Heat Energy Transfer unit concluded with inquiry-based investigations focused on the three modes of thermal energy transfer: conduction, convection, and radiation. Students analyzed convection currents using convection tubes and balloons, observed the popping of popcorn through each mode, and even made s'mores to see heat energy in action. Along the way, they collected data and evidence to support their CER (Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning) writing, strengthening their ability to explain how heat moves through different materials and systems. Science was engaging, interactive, and delicious. To get a glimpse of this inquiry-based learning check out the video link https://youtu.be/wgO4ZUa5kEY

Ms. Rambo’s 8th-grade scientists visited Mr. Perry’s 6th-grade class and taught a hands-on lesson about heat energy transfer. Students explored conduction, convection, and radiation with a fun popcorn lab — measuring, observing, and explaining how heat moves. Who knew learning could be this tasty and exciting?

Watching older students lead, younger students learn, and everyone light up with curiosity was truly inspiring. Together we inspire curiosity, ignite a love of science, and influence the next generation of thinkers. 🍿🔬🔥

Mr. Perry handed his students a single word: PARACHUTE. No instructions. No template. Just one challenge — design and build a parachute that will safely land an unknown object.

This was engineering under pressure: rapid prototyping, and teamwork.

Mission outcome: several soft landings, one heart-stopping near-miss, and a classroom buzzing with triumph, lessons learned, and plans for version two.

Mr. Perry’s one-word prompt turned curiosity into courage and creativity into flight.
