🍂 Decatur County Curriculum Leaders enjoyed connecting and learning at the FALL GACIS Conference in Athens, GA!
We were inspired by Dr. Jim Knight, who shared how instructional coaching can be one of the most powerful drivers of teacher growth and student success. 💡📈

We also gained insights from Dr. John Almarode on the science of struggle—reminding us that those challenging moments in learning are often where the magic truly happens. ✨📚

Last Saturday, Bainbridge High School Baseball Coach Ryan Riles and the BHS baseball players hosted the Fall Future Bearcat Baseball Camp!

With more than 70 young athletes registered, the camp was filled with energy, teamwork, and excitement for the game. Coach Riles knows that the youth of today are the Bearcats of tomorrow, and his hands-on involvement ensures these players are not only learning the fundamentals of baseball but also building confidence, teamwork, and Bearcat pride from the very beginning.

Thanks to the dedication of Coach Riles and the BHS baseball team, these future Bearcats walked away inspired and better prepared for the seasons ahead. We are so grateful for the opportunity to help shape the future of baseball in Bainbridge.

Jose's Final Round

Saying goodbye is never easy, but sometimes it’s even harder when a student has left such a powerful impact on an entire school.

Recently, Bainbridge High School came together to celebrate Jose’s “Final Round.” Jose, an exceptional education student at BHS, has officially aged out of the school system, and there was no way the Bearcat family was going to let him leave without a celebration worthy of his spirit.

The party theme? WWE, of course, with John Cena front and center, Jose’s all-time favorite. From the decorations to the energy, everything shouted “main event.” His family, friends, and classmates gathered to cheer him on, creating memories that will last far beyond the halls of BHS.

The Early Childhood Education students added their own special touch by guiding a fun activity where guests designed and colored championship belts, because every champion deserves their own.

This day was more than a party. It was a reminder of what makes our school system special: the love, care, and dedication that follow students from their very first day until their very last.

Jose, you are already missed. And even though, in John Cena’s words, “you can’t see me” in the halls of Bainbridge High School anymore, you will always see us around.

🚒 Building Futures with Bainbridge Public Safety 🔥

Bainbridge Public Safety (BPS) recently visited Bainbridge High School to support Leroy Akins’ Criminal Justice class. BPS brought two fire trucks for students to explore and shared lessons on fire safety, the classes of fires, and the types of fire extinguishers — perfectly aligning with what students have been learning in class.

This visit gave students a real-world connection to their studies and highlighted the importance of careers in public safety. We appreciate BPS for partnering with us to provide these hands-on opportunities that prepare students for future careers and help keep jobs here in our community. That’s The Bearcat Way! 🐾

The Georgia Educational Technology Conference (GAETC) annually recognizes educators who exemplify outstanding innovation, leadership, and impact in integrating technology into teaching and learning through the prestigious Rising Star Educator Award. Candidates are nominated by their peers and required to submit compelling evidence along with a video showcasing their contributions, achievements, and the positive influence they have made on students, teachers, and the broader school community through the use of technology.

We are proud to announce that Mrs. Samantha Palmer, Media Specialist at Hutto Elementary School, has been selected as one of this year’s Rising Star Educators. She will be formally recognized and honored at the upcoming GAETC Conference in November, where she will also be considered as a featured speaker. Her dedication and innovative approach serve as an inspiring example of how technology can transform education.

Mrs. Palmer shared, “I am truly honored to be nominated for this award, and being one of just four educators recognized across Georgia is incredible to me. Each week, I organize my time around ensuring students have the best possible learning experiences and that teachers feel supported and equipped. Being a media specialist allows me the unique opportunity to connect with all students and help them build a love for both reading and technology. My goal is for every student to have something meaningful and impactful to share with their parents at the end of the day. There’s nothing more rewarding than hearing a child excitedly share something special they experienced at school that day. What I enjoy most is combining literacy and technology, because when those two come together, amazing things can happen.”

Way to shine, Mrs. Palmer! Congratulations!

💛💛💛Go Gold for Jeremy and Childhood Cancer Awareness Day💛💛💛
Friday, September 19th

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and Decatur County Schools invites the entire community to join us as we honor one of our own, Jeremy Backey.

On Friday, September 19, we encourage everyone—students, staff, families, and community members—to wear gold in memory of Jeremy’s life and in support of all children and families affected by childhood cancer.

This special tradition began at Jones-Wheat Primary, started by Mrs. Otha Backey in honor of her son, and now we are extending the invitation to the whole district and the Bainbridge community to join together.

Let’s fill our schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods with gold as a symbol of hope, strength, and support. Thank you for helping us honor Jeremy and stand united in raising awareness for childhood cancer.
