Congratulations to Morris Smith, Rylan Godwin, Kevin Ray, and Morgan Vickers from the Bainbridge FFA Chapter for earning 4th Place in the Georgia FFA State Agriculture Technology & Maintenance Career Development Event (CDE) on March 20–21, 2026 in Covington, Georgia!
After advancing from Area competition, this team competed against the best in the state and tackled an even more challenging set of technical and hands-on skills. Their contest included:
⚡ Completing an advanced electrical wiring circuit
🔧 Installing tappets and a camshaft and correctly timing a small Briggs & Stratton engine
📏 Measuring and calculating materials to build a horse paddock
🔥 Using an oxy-acetylene cutting torch to cut metal to precise specifications
📝 Completing a 25-question technical exam
🤝 Finishing a team activity involving:
• Motor switches and motors
• Three-way switches
• 240-volt receptacles
Competing at the state level requires precision, teamwork, and advanced technical knowledge—and this team rose to the challenge with an outstanding Top 5 finish in Georgia!
Please join us in congratulating these students for their hard work and dedication to excellence in agricultural mechanics and technology. We are incredibly proud of how they represented Bainbridge FFA! 🌾🛠️

They say FRC is about engineering, but we’re starting to think the real challenge is mastering the ratchet strap! 🔧
This year, our ongoing battle with the trailer straps we use to secure our robot and PIT equipment has become the biggest inside joke of the team. We’re great with coding and mechanics, but show us a loose strap, and it’s like trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube with boxing gloves on. "Pull, then push? No, loop it that way? Wait, how did it lock?!" The confusion is real!
Our Journey of (Struggle and) Success:
But seriously, we’re finding that getting these straps tight requires just as much GRIT, TEAMWORK, and PATIENCE as fine-tuning our robot, KitCats. 🤖
One person holds the hook, another manages the loop, and the whole team cheers when that first click-click-click actually happens! We might not get it right on the first try (or the third... or the sixth), but we are getting better. Every awkward attempt is another lesson in PERSISTENCE.
We want to send a massive THANK YOU to our incredible Mentors, Mr Kyle Kelley and Mr Jared Lovering for your endless patience and guidance. Thank you for not giving up on us, even when we wanted to give up on the strap. We’re determined to "get it right" and literally tie up all our loose ends (and the robot!) before the next competition.
Watch out, Albany! The straps might still be a mystery, but the KitCats are secure and we're ready for the competition! Come out to support our team on March 27 and 28 at the Civic Center in Albany, GA. We'll be the team in PURPLE who are working hard to put Bainbridge on the map!
